Noise Using an APx Analyzer with a Notebook Computer

Question:

There is a drastic increase in noise when the APx analyzer is connected to my notebook computer instead of my desktop PC. This increased noise appears in my measurement results. How can I resolve this issue?

Answer:

This is a result of a voltage potential (100-200mV) on the USB ground of the notebook PC. To fix the problem, ground the APx chassis to the notebook PC using a heavy gauge multi-strand copper cable. You can connect it to one of the hex jack screws on the external monitor port of the notebook as shown below.
